River cleaning work in Kinshasa to prevent flooding

The city of Kinshasa in the DRC is preparing to face the rainy season with a series of river cleaning works. Under the leadership of the Minister of State, Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, Alexis Gisaro Muvunyi, this work aims to guarantee the proper evacuation of water and prevent flooding which can occur during heavy rainfall.

The Minister of State kicked off this work by inspecting the gutters of the Gombe River, one of the main outlets of the city. Accompanied by experts from the Roads and Drainage Office, he noted that the gutters were completely blocked by waste and called on the population to be more civic-minded by avoiding throwing trash into the gutters.

Continuing his inspection, the Minister of State went to Kabasele Avenue to check the work carried out on the Bitshaku-tshaku River, which is taking place in good conditions. He then visited the HJ bridge on Boulevard Lumumba, as well as 12th Rue Limete where the JMC company is carrying out work as part of the 3 Communes project.

This river cleaning work is essential to ensure the proper flow of water and avoid flooding. The Minister of State stressed the importance of respecting deadlines and work plans in order to guarantee the effectiveness of this work. Phase 2 of the gutter cleaning campaign is scheduled for the end of October.

By taking preventive measures such as cleaning rivers, the DRC government demonstrates its desire to protect the population from risks linked to bad weather. This work will help ensure the safety and well-being of Kinshasa residents during the rainy season.
