The phenomenon of kidnappings of taxi, taxi-bus and motorcycle passengers by unidentified people is becoming more and more worrying in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Faced with this situation, the provincial government of Kinshasa has taken several measures to combat this growing insecurity in the city.
In a press release from the provincial Ministry of the Interior and Security published on June 26, it is now forbidden for taxis with tinted windows to circulate. Specialized services will also ensure that the number of passengers carried by taxis and motorcycles is limited. Carriers will be required to display their identification number visible on their vehicles and report any intruders.
The government also calls for the collaboration of the population. It invites the inhabitants to be vigilant and to report any suspect or accomplice so that they face the rigor of the law. This insecurity in public transport disrupts the free movement of citizens. It is therefore important to take measures to guarantee the safety of passengers in transit.
However, the provincial Ministry of Interior, Security and Justice reassures the population about their safety. The City’s security services will make every effort to ensure the tranquility of passengers in urban traffic.
In short, this fight against kidnappings in Kinshasa requires collaboration between the authorities and the citizens. The measures taken by the provincial government of Kinshasa are necessary actions to restore security in the city
