“TFM is committed to the fight against malaria in schools in its concession in the DRC”

The fight against malaria is a priority for the development of the DRC. To this end, Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM) has set up an annual program to assess the prevalence of the disease in schools in its concession, in the Fungurume health zone. This year, more than 3,000 students took part in the school-based malaria prevalence survey, which lasted nearly three weeks. The selected students are subjected to a rapid diagnostic test as well as a free medical consultation. In the event of a positive diagnosis, the parents are made aware and the child is prescribed an antimalarial treatment.

This initiative contributes to the fight against school absenteeism and makes parents aware of the importance of measures to prevent and fight against malaria. This type of survey highlights the commitment of companies to public health, an action necessary for the development of the DRC.

In parallel with this investigation, the World Bank allocated 100 million dollars to fight against the erosion threatening the town of Kananga and the province of Kasai Central. This sum will ensure the protection of local populations against the risk of flooding and the preservation of arable land, a source of income for many families.

Public health and environmental protection are major challenges for the sustainable development of the DRC. Initiatives such as that of TFM and the World Bank show a willingness to act in favor of improving the living conditions of the Congolese population.
