The Democratic Republic of Congo is preparing to host the first edition of the FATSHI Cup, a football tournament organized by the Union of Central African Football Federations (UNIFFAC). This competition reserved for those under 20 will allow the Congolese Leopards to prepare for the 9th Francophone Games, scheduled for Kinshasa.
The national coach, Guy Bukasa, unveiled a list of 23 players playing in Congo and abroad. Among them, two players from Maniema Union, one from TP Mazembe, one from Lupopo, one from Renaissance and an American player playing at the Potomac club in New York.
The tournament will begin on July 1 and end on Saturday July 8. The winner will pocket an amount of 30,000 US dollars while the second will win 20,000 dollars.
The choice of players seems balanced, with a team made up of young local and international players. This tournament will allow the Leopards to test themselves before the French-speaking games and represents an excellent opportunity for young Congolese footballers to get noticed.
It is time for the Democratic Republic of Congo to adopt a sports policy and to give the possibility to athletes, young or confirmed, to express themselves and to compete in international competitions such as the Francophone Games, thus allowing this country to strengthen its visibility and influence internationally.
