Recently, strongholds of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) were recovered by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) in the territory of Beni, North Kivu. According to the statements of the spokesperson for the operational sector Sukola1 Grand-Nord, Captain Anthony Mwalushayi, these bastions, Apetina and Kengele, were used to launch attacks against the population.
In addition, the bones of 13 citizens who had been killed for several months were also discovered. The remains were buried by young people from the city of Oïcha, the administrator of the territory of Beni and politico-customary authorities. According to the authorities, these remains of the bodies were those of the compatriots who had been taken hostage by the ADF-MTM.
These discoveries represent an important step in the fight against armed groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo. However, the threat from these armed groups remains very real and the population continues to live in fear. The FARDC and local authorities must continue to work together to ensure the safety and protection of people in the region.
In recent weeks, many events have taken place in different parts of the country: young people are mobilizing for peace in Ituri despite generalized insecurity, the Democratic Republic of Congo is undertaking a major reform of its police to strengthen peace, security and the rule of law, Kasai Central provides the police with 20 motorcycles to reinforce security, the UAE regional force advances in the cantonment of the armed group M23 in the DRC, etc.
These events show that the Democratic Republic of Congo is transforming and progressing despite the many challenges it faces. Congolese citizens must continue to work together and support their country to overcome these challenges and build a better future for all.
