Kinshasa: A project to build local stadiums on the Kabulo table
With the aim of providing Kinshasa with local sports infrastructure, a stadium construction project is currently under study. The director of the French development agency, Safia Ibrahim, recently met with the Minister of Sports and Recreation, François Kabulo Mwana Kabulo, to discuss this initiative.
The project includes the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of various infrastructure elements necessary to create these proximity stadiums. It mainly aims to promote women’s sport in the Congolese capital.
It is planned to renovate five existing pitches, including the Germany pitch in Bandalungwa, the PNC pitch in Lingwala, as well as two pitches in the commune of N’sele and another dedicated to rugby. These fields will be modernized with the construction of changing rooms above the stands and even recording studios to offer complete facilities adapted to the needs of players and spectators.
This local stadium construction project complements the infrastructure already present in Kinshasa, such as the Martyrs stadium and the Tata Raphaël stadium. It aims to offer a greater number of sports spaces accessible to all, thus promoting the practice of sport and contributing to the development of an active and healthy life within the population.
The project is still at an examination stage, with rehabilitation work only able to begin once the project has been awarded. However, this initiative demonstrates the commitment of the Congolese government and the support of the French development agency to invest in the development of sports infrastructure and to promote gender equality in the field of sport.
In conclusion, the construction of local stadiums in Kinshasa is a major project which aims to meet the needs of the population in terms of accessible sports infrastructure. This initiative will help develop women’s sport and encourage the regular practice of sport, thus promoting the health and well-being of the population.
