The creation of the new airline Air-Congo: a strategic partnership for the aeronautical development of the Congo
The Congolese Government has just relaunched the project to create the new national airline, Air-Congo, according to a report from the Council of Ministers published on September 24. This project follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Transport, Ways of Communication and Opening-up and the Ethiopian Airlines group, with the aim of promoting the development of investments in the aeronautical field in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as well as the consolidation of network operations and the strengthening of technical and operational capacities.
It is important to emphasize that the creation of the new national company will not be to the detriment of Congo Airways, the airline currently operating in the DRC. Indeed, the Congo Airways Emergency and Stabilization Plan is already being implemented, including in particular the rental of a leasing aircraft and the acquisition of another. Thus, the new airline will complement and strengthen the country’s air offering, allowing rapid operation of international routes.
A detailed business plan was presented by the Minister of Transport, Roads of Communication and Accessibility, Marc Ekila, in order to assess the economic, financial and legal capacities of the new company. A precise timetable, including 22 actions to be carried out in 157 days, has also been established to guide the process of creating the company until obtaining the Air Transporter Certificate (CTA).
This project to create Air-Congo represents a major opportunity for the development of the aeronautical sector in the DRC. By partnering with Ethiopian Airlines, a renowned international company, the Congolese government is showing its desire to promote air transport in the country, strengthen international connections and encourage investments in this key sector of the economy.
In conclusion, the relaunch of the project to create the new airline Air-Congo in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines marks an important step in the development of the aeronautical sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This project will strengthen the country’s air supply, promote international trade and stimulate investments in this strategic area.
