Workshop to strengthen skills in childhood vaccination in Maniema, DRC

Monday September 18, a workshop to strengthen skills in childhood vaccination was organized in the province of Maniema in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This event, organized by the Expanded Vaccination Program (EPI), aimed to raise awareness among media professionals of the importance of vaccination and to discuss the situation of unvaccinated children in the province.

Yves Ndjadi, communications manager for PATH-RDC, stressed the importance of collaboration between the EPI and the media to get the message of vaccination across. He recalled that the vaccine saves lives and helps prevent diseases that are fatal for children.

During this workshop, journalists had the opportunity to learn more about the different diseases against which children are vaccinated. Additionally, they were able to visit vaccination sites to observe how vaccines are administered to children.

The province of Maniema currently has low vaccination coverage compared to the national average. Several factors contribute to this situation, including limited access to vaccination services, cultural beliefs and financial barriers. The EPI is committed to working closely with the media, local authorities and local communities to strengthen vaccination coverage in the province.

This workshop represents an important step in efforts to raise public awareness of the importance of vaccination and improve public health in Maniema province. By strengthening the skills of media professionals in this area, the EPI hopes to guarantee better vaccination coverage and thus protect the health of children.

Vaccination is a crucial issue for public health and it is essential that all stakeholders, including the media, fully commit to informing and raising awareness among the population. Through initiatives such as this skills-building workshop, the DRC is moving closer to its goal of optimal vaccination coverage and better health for all.
