The recent decisions of the Constitutional Court in the DRC: A major step forward for democracy and gender equality during the legislative elections.

The recent judgments of the Constitutional Court concerning electoral disputes during the national legislative elections have aroused keen interest in political news in the DRC. Indeed, the High Court has rendered its decisions on the appeals contesting the provisional list of applications declared admissible and inadmissible.

Of the 252 applications filed, the Court found 141 admissible and well-founded, 43 admissible but unfounded, and 68 inadmissible. This resolution of the Constitutional Court had consequences on the final list of candidates for the election of national deputies.

In its decisions, the Court ordered the registration of four political parties and groups, namely the ACRN, the APPC, the FP 2023 and the NOGÉCO, on the list of political parties and groups having reached the admissibility threshold. The Independent National Electoral Commission thus took note of these judgments and published decision no. 106/CENI/AP/2023 formalizing the final list of candidates.

These developments mark a major step forward in terms of political representativeness, allowing these parties and groups to fully participate in national legislative elections.

These decisions by the Constitutional Court have profound implications for democracy in the DRC. They make it possible to guarantee a transparent and fair electoral process, while respecting the rights of citizens and ensuring diverse political representation.

The crucial role of women in African politics was also highlighted by these judgments. The active participation of women in these validated political parties and groups reinforces the importance of gender equality in the political and social life of the country.

In conclusion, these judgments of the Constitutional Court mark a significant step in the electoral process in the DRC. They demonstrate commitment to democracy and justice, and contribute to strengthening political representativeness and gender equality in the country.
