France shows its commitment to the climate and international solidarity with a contribution of 1.6 billion euros to the Green Climate Fund.

France’s commitment to the fight against climate change and international solidarity was highlighted by Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna during her speech to the UN General Assembly. She announced a contribution of 1.6 billion euros to finance the Green Climate Fund for the period 2024-2027.

Created in 2010, the Green Climate Fund plays a key role in mobilizing the financial resources necessary to support vulnerable countries in their actions to address climate change. France had already participated in the first replenishment of the Fund in 2019 and continues to show its commitment by increasing its contribution for the next period.

In her speech, Catherine Colonna stressed that France is exceeding its financial promises on the climate, by allocating 7.6 billion euros in 2022, more than a billion euros more than planned. She also highlighted the importance of protecting the environment and ecosystems, particularly in the face of natural disasters that have affected many countries this year.

In addition to its climate commitment, France also announced a doubling of its contribution to the World Food Program (WFP), bringing its food aid to nearly one billion euros which benefits 67 countries. Catherine Colonna also underlined France’s confidence in African solutions to African crises.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs’ speech highlights France’s commitment to the climate and international solidarity. By announcing a significant financial contribution and emphasizing the importance of environmental protection, France is showing that it is ready to act collectively to face global challenges. Additionally, strengthened support for food aid and confidence in African solutions highlight France’s comprehensive approach to solving global problems.
