The security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo remains worrying, particularly in the eastern part of the country. This was declared by the President of the Upper House of the Congolese Parliament, Modeste Bahati, at the opening of the ordinary session. He stressed that local and foreign armed groups continue to sow trouble, thus plunging this region into a security and humanitarian crisis.

In addition, urban banditry, including Kuluna phenomena and kidnappings, persists in many cities across the country.
Modeste Bahati, however, was optimistic about an improvement in the security situation with the arrival of the new commander of the National Police. He called on the government to redouble its efforts to eradicate these scourges, which could compromise the smooth running of the legislative elections scheduled for next December.
