“The importance of a solid and well-trained army for the development of the DRC”

The importance of a strong army for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was recently highlighted by the spokesperson for the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC), Lieutenant General Sylvain Ekenge. According to him, no country can claim development and the well-being of its population without a solid army.

However, for Lieutenant General Ekenge, the size of the army is not the most important factor. It emphasizes the quality of training of soldiers. He affirms that the rise of the FARDC does not only depend on numbers, but also on quality training, adequate equipment, reinforced troop training and optimal logistics.

With this in mind, the Congolese army has recruited more than 40,000 young people for training. However, the selection is rigorous and only candidates meeting strict criteria are selected. Members of armed groups who have joined the Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization Program (PDDRC-S) are not eligible. The army needs capable young people, single without children, aged 18 to 25, and with impeccable morality.

Lieutenant General Ekenge emphasizes the importance of this quality-oriented approach. He affirms that the Congolese army is determined to train competent and well-equipped soldiers, capable of facing all internal and external threats. He also emphasizes that quality training, adapted equipment and new technologies are essential elements to achieve this objective.

The vision of the Congolese army is clear: to build an army commensurate with the ambitions of the DRC, in order to make the country a strong and prosperous powerhouse of Africa. This desire is reflected in efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the FARDC, while maintaining strict criteria for the recruitment and training of soldiers.

In conclusion, the Congolese army recognizes the importance of a strong army for the development and well-being of the country. It is committed to continuing its efforts to train quality soldiers and equip them with the necessary equipment to ensure security and protect the interests of the DRC.
