“MONUSCO at the front to protect displaced people in the DRC”

The crucial role of MONUSCO in the protection of displaced people in the DRC

The humanitarian situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo is worrying, particularly in Ituri province, where more than 100,000 people have been displaced by armed conflicts. In this complex and unstable environment, MONUSCO (United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the DRC) plays an essential role in the physical protection of the displaced.

The head of MONUSCO, Bintou Keita, revealed during a press conference that the UN mission provides physical protection to more than 100,000 displaced people spread across four operational bases in Bayoo, Fataki, Rhoo and Gina, in the territory of Djugu. She stressed the importance of this assistance to guarantee the security and well-being of displaced people who depend on MONUSCO for their survival.

Ituri province is not the only one affected by forced displacement. In North Kivu, stability and peace can only be restored with a lasting resolution to the conflict. Bintou Keita stressed the importance of coordination and joint planning between regional and bilateral forces deployed, under the leadership of the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo), to face security challenges and ensure the protection of civilians.

MONUSCO also recognizes the crucial role of Congolese women in resolving conflicts in the east of the country. Bintou Keita is committed to making their voices heard and promoting their active participation in peace and stability efforts. It is essential to recognize and value their contribution, as they play a key role in building a more peaceful and egalitarian society.

South Kivu province is also one of the areas where the population relies heavily on MONUSCO protection. It is therefore essential to strengthen the action of the UN mission in this region to ensure the security and well-being of the inhabitants.

Protecting the displaced and promoting peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo remain major challenges, but thanks to the commitment of MONUSCO and collaboration with Congolese authorities and regional forces, progress can be made. It is essential to continue supporting these efforts to overcome obstacles and build a better future for all Congolese.
