“The General Inspectorate of Finance in the DRC: a key player in the fight against corruption and transparency”

The General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has experienced remarkable growth in recent years. Never before has a monitoring body attracted so much attention and held the national scene in suspense for so long. Since 2020, the IGF has launched a series of reports on crucial topics such as COVID funds, free education and the Bukangalonzo affair. These revelations demonstrated the commitment and determination of the IGF Management in the fight against anti-values.

Over the past three years, the IGF has done a titanic job in cleaning up the ranks of public officials and revealing certain questionable practices. Corrupt provincial governors, such as Muyez Mangez and Atou Matubuana, were caught. The IGF also carried out in-depth audits, highlighting cases of massive fraud, particularly in customs exemptions, control of the Central Bank of Congo and the management of Gécamines. Revelations concerning scandalous mining contracts, the embezzlement of Central Bank funds by BGFI BANK, the questionable practices of Sicomines and the bodies found in the civil servants’ payroll files have shaken the country.

The hard work of the IGF did not go unnoticed and aroused the admiration of the President of the Republic himself. On several occasions, he praised the efforts of this financial control service, recognizing its seriousness and dedication. This recognition made the IGF one of the key services of the presidential administration.

However, this fame and these successes have attracted jealous people, who seek to discredit the IGF by all means. They use a sometimes complicit press and individuals claiming to be spokespersons for political authorities to carry out attacks against the control service. Despite these obstacles, the IGF continues to move forward, consolidating its reputation on the international scene.

This is demonstrated by the numerous awards and distinctions received, such as the prestigious Forbes international prize for the best actor in the fight against corruption in Africa. The IGF has also been praised by many Belgian and French MPs for its remarkable work. These recognitions demonstrate the importance of the role of the IGF in the fight against corruption and anti-values in the DRC.

The progress made by the IGF over the last three years is impressive. His work has contributed to cleaning up the machinery of public administration and exposing fraudulent practices. Thanks to its determination, the IGF has restored the confidence of the Congolese in institutions and placed the fight against corruption and transparency at the heart of the political debate. By continuing this dynamic, the IGF will play a key role in building a better future for the DRC.
