Katanga Business Meeting: Unlocking the economic potential of the DRC for sustainable and equitable development

The multi-sectoral Katanga Business Meeting (KBM) exhibition opened its doors in Lubumbashi, capital of the Haut-Katanga province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This international conference, which will take place from September 14 to 15, addresses the crucial question of how the economic potential of the DRC can be unlocked to promote sustainable and equitable development.

During the opening ceremony, Jean Claude Kamfwa Kimimba, vice-governor of Haut-Katanga, expressed his wish to see the DRC’s economy diversify beyond the mining sector. He stressed that Katanga and the entire country must not only rely on natural resources, but find ways to support other economic sectors which, in turn, will contribute to the growth and development of the country.

This edition of the Katanga Business Meeting is of particular importance as it aims to unlock the economic potential of the DRC. Costas Musunka, Managing Director of KBM, stressed that the DRC, rich in natural resources, has immense economic potential, but that it is necessary to address the challenges to fully realize it. The show therefore provides a unique opportunity to share knowledge, discuss experiences and find innovative solutions to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Scientists, researchers and university professionals also spoke during various panels which will take place throughout the show. The Burundian Minister of the East African Community (EAC), Ezéchiel Nibigira, is among the experts invited to share their ideas and perspectives on unlocking the economic potential of the DRC.

The Katanga Business Meeting is therefore a vital opportunity for the DRC to diversify its economy, promote sustainable development and explore new opportunities for a more solid and equitable economic future. By encouraging collaboration and innovation, this conference helps to open new perspectives for the country and build a prosperous future for all Congolese citizens.
