Title: Strengthening regional cooperation for peace and sustainable development: the ICGLR and the DRC in action

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) continue to work together to promote peace, security and sustainable development in the region. During a recent meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Francophonie, Christophe Lutundula, spoke with João Samuel Caholo, executive secretary of the ICGLR. Launched by the Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, the Regional Forum on artisanal and small-scale mining gold aims to implement the ICGLR strategy in this area. This forum, which is currently being held in Kinshasa, brings together representatives of ICGLR member countries and international experts. The aim is to promote responsible gold trading and combat illegal practices that fuel conflict and human exploitation.
The security situation in the Great Lakes region:
