“Draw me peace: Congolese artists are mobilizing to raise awareness of the cause of peace in the DRC”

What if peace could be represented through drawings? This is what Congolese artists believe who are mobilizing to raise awareness of the cause of peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). A press cartoon competition, entitled “Draw me peace”, was launched by Seven Idea and Kash Studio.

Open to all Congolese, amateurs or professionals, residing in the DRC, this competition offers a unique opportunity for artists to express themselves on an issue that affects the entire nation. Participants have until September 15 to register and until September 30 to submit their drawings. The 10 best works will be exhibited at the National Museum of the DRC in Kinshasa on October 7, during the awards ceremony.

Press cartoons are an effective way of transmitting information, giving your opinion on current issues and raising public awareness. This competition aims to challenge the Congolese, using popular and humorous language, to get them to think about different national issues and their daily lives.

The jury, made up of a visual communication teacher, a cartoonist or press cartoonist and a cultural journalist, will evaluate the drawings according to several criteria such as respect for the theme of the competition, understanding of the issues of the subject , the originality of the idea, the humor, the irony and the quality of the production.

The first two prizes will receive USD 500 and USD 150 respectively, while the candidates ranked 3rd to 10th will receive a reward of USD 50 each.

The selected drawings may be used during public events or integrated into paper and online publications, in a purely didactic framework.

This press cartoon competition is a creative and committed initiative which allows Congolese artists to express themselves on subjects important to society. By mobilizing art and creativity, they contribute to raising awareness among the population of the need for peace and stability in the DRC.
