This fourth campaign, which takes place at the Diamant medical center in Lubumbashi, welcomes around twenty children from different regions of the country.
Among these children is a newborn less than a week old who suffers from a serious heart defect. His parents are naturally worried, but they remain optimistic, thanks to the doctors’ reassuring explanations. Cardiac surgery will improve blood circulation to the lungs and thus save the life of this fragile little being.
The commitment of health professionals, both Congolese and American, is essential to successfully carry out these complex surgical procedures. Thanks to their expertise and dedication, fifty-one children have already benefited from this campaign and are now in good health.
However, access to quality care for children with heart defects remains a major challenge in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The head of the Diamant Medical Center underlines the importance of the State’s involvement in supporting these initiatives and financing these vitally necessary operations.
The provincial Minister of Health, Joseph Sambi Bulanda, also calls for broader support for this project, by requesting the national Minister of Health. He insists on the need to perpetuate this medical campaign in order to be able to help more Congolese children suffering from heart defects.
