“Political conflict in the management of the CENI in the DRC: Denis Kadima resists the relentlessness of Corneille Nangaa”

Political relentlessness in the management of public institutions is an unfortunately common reality in the DRC. A blatant example of this state of affairs is the current conflict between the former president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Corneille Nangaa, and his successor Denis Kadima.

Since his departure from the CENI, Corneille Nangaa has harbored animosity and a feeling of revenge towards Denis Kadima. This resentment is fueled by several factors, notably the refusal of Félix Tshisekedi, current president of the DRC, to intervene in favor of Nangaa in an illegally acquired gold mine affair.

This political-personal rivalry was expressed through repeated attacks by Nangaa against Kadima and the CENI. Discredit is being cast on the electoral institution, with accusations of electoral fraud and attempts to capture the electoral administration by certain politicians nostalgic for old practices of influence.

However, Denis Kadima distinguished himself by a progressive approach in his management of the CENI. It aims to consolidate Congolese democracy by establishing a transparent electoral process that respects international standards. His work is also praised by the national and international community.

Nangaa’s animosity towards Kadima also manifests itself in unfounded attacks, such as accusations of Kadima changing his personal guard. In reality, Nangaa voluntarily gave up certain advantages linked to his status as former president of the CENI when he chose to take an active part in political life.

This situation of conflict within the CENI creates an unhealthy climate between the opposition, the government and the electoral administration. It jeopardizes the credibility of future elections and could compromise the re-election of Félix Tshisekedi.

It is essential to emphasize that in any human organization, rules and laws govern operations and ensure professional harmony. The CENI is no exception to this rule. Thus, the National Executive Secretary of the CENI, Toto Mabuki Totokani, was sanctioned for having violated these rules and harmed the organization of elections in the DRC.

Despite these obstacles, Denis Kadima continues to professionalize the electoral institution and improve the working conditions of CENI agents. Its achievements mark a new chapter in the history of Congolese democracy, raising hopes for better governance and a more transparent and fair electoral process.

In conclusion, the path to progress and democracy in the DRC is strewn with pitfalls. Political relentlessness and attempts to capture public institutions represent major challenges to overcome. However, personalities such as Denis Kadima, who embody the desire for change and democratic consolidation, deserve our support and recognition in their efforts for a better DRC.
