In a recent information note, the Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, underlined the importance for the government to support the organization of the Extraordinary Congress of the National Press Union of Congo ( UNPC). This request for assistance comes from the Steering Committee of the UNPC following the preparatory work for this major event in the Congolese press.

This decision to accompany the congress results from the recommendations made during the General States of Communication and Media, which took place in January 2022. The President of the Republic then instructed the government to support the reforms of the national authority of self-regulation of the press, with the aim of strengthening the ethics and quality of the media field.

Minister Patrick Muyaya presented in detail the different stages of the preparatory work to the members of the Council of Ministers. The texts to be examined and adopted during the Extraordinary Congress of the UNPC were presented, in particular the draft modified Statutes, Internal Regulations (ROI) and Procedural Manual. These documents will play an essential role in consolidating the regulation of the Congolese press.

This approach by the government demonstrates its commitment to a quality and ethical press, aligned with international standards. By supporting the Extraordinary Congress of the UNPC, the government is helping to promote a professional and independent press, capable of playing its crucial role within Congolese society.

The organization of this congress will also make it possible to strengthen links between the different components of the Congolese press, by promoting exchanges and constructive debates on the challenges and issues of the sector. This is a major opportunity for the UNPC to reinvent itself and position itself as a key player in the Congolese media scene.

In conclusion, government support for the Extraordinary Congress of the UNPC demonstrates the importance given to the Congolese press, as well as the desire to strengthen its regulatory and ethical framework. This initiative will help promote a quality press, essential to building an informed and democratic society in Congo.
