The province of Kasaï, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is experiencing a problem of soil erosion which has engulfed several houses and which is endangering the lives of the inhabitants. The governor of the province, Dieudonné Pieme, launched, on Friday June 2, the work of filling in the ravine which is at the Kapongo Institute, located in the commune of Kanzala in Tshikapa. Work began following the acquisition of anti-erosion equipment and machinery sent by the central government to put an end to this problem.
This initiative was welcomed by the population, who welcomed the involvement of President Félix Tshisekedi in solving the problems that affect the daily lives of the Congolese. The inhabitants also thanked the provincial authority for its commitment and efficiency in acquiring the necessary equipment.
However, Governor Dieudonné Pieme called for the mobilization of the population to lend a hand to the executives of the Office of Roads and Drainage (OVD) as well as to the security services, to work and secure the filling sites of the ravine.
Soil erosion is a pressing problem in the DRC. Many regions and provinces are affected by this phenomenon, which compromises the safety and quality of life of citizens. The central government must act quickly to provide anti-erosion equipment and materials to solve this problem, and the provincial authorities must also play their full role in mobilizing the population and guaranteeing the safety of construction sites.
