The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is experiencing positive progress in the export of its agricultural products and forestry menus to international markets. This bullish trend was confirmed during the week of September 4-9, 2023.
According to the forecasts of the National Commission of Mercurial Prices of the Ministry of Foreign Trade, several products have recorded a significant increase in their prices. Robusta coffee, for example, is expected to hit $2.50 per kilogram this week, up from $2.43 the previous week. An increase which testifies to the growing attractiveness of this Congolese coffee on the international market.
Similarly, Arabica coffee, cocoa, papain, cinchona bark, totaquina powder, quinine salt, and rauwolfia also saw increases in value this week. Arabica coffee is expected to sell at $2.48 per kilogram, down from $2.35 the previous week. As for cocoa, it is expected to reach USD 1.92 per kilogram, up slightly from the previous USD 1.90.
Papain, an enzyme extracted from papaya, is also up with a price of $16.35 per kilogram, up from $16.17 previously. Cinchona bark, totaquina powder, quinine salt and rauwolfia are also seeing price increases, reflecting growing consumer interest in these natural Congolese products.
However, the National Mercurial Commission announces that the price of rubber should remain stable on international markets, holding at 0.76 USD per kilogram. This stability can be attributed to different factors, such as competition in the global market or fluctuations in commodity prices.
Overall, the rise in prices of agricultural products and forest menus from the DRC on international markets is good news for the country. This speaks to the quality and appeal of these products, as well as the growing interest of global consumers. This positive trend could also contribute to the country’s economic development, by stimulating exports and improving the incomes of farmers and actors in the Congolese agricultural sector.
It is important to emphasize that this information is based on the forecasts of the National Commission of Mercurial Prices and may be subject to variations according to market fluctuations. Nevertheless, they bear witness to a general upward trend in the prices of agricultural products and forestry menus from the DRC on international markets and offer good prospects for the future of these economic sectors in the country.
