The sixth and final day of the CAN 2024 qualifiers promises to be full of suspense and twists and turns. Nine places are still up for grabs and some matches will be of crucial importance for the competing teams.
Group E is one of the most interesting to follow, with Ghana, Angola and the Central African Republic still in the running for qualification. The Fauves de Centrafrique dream of a first participation in the CAN, but their task promises to be difficult against the Ghanaian Black Stars. Deprived of their captain Geoffrey Kondogbia, injured, the Central Africans will have a real challenge to overcome to hope to qualify.
In Group I, Gabon, led by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, travels to Mauritania for a decisive match. No team has yet qualified or been knocked out in this group, where the standings were upended by DR Congo’s decision to appeal their green carpet loss to Mauritania. The Congolese are now in a favorable position, and a draw would be enough for them to qualify. The Mauritanians, meanwhile, will likely have to win to have a chance of qualifying. Gabon could also qualify in the event of a draw with a score other than 0-0, thanks to the particular goal difference.
A game without stakes but charged with emotions will take place between Rwanda and Senegal. This meeting, which was tense even before its kick-off, will be an opportunity for the two teams to measure themselves, even if they will be deprived of their reigning African champions and the coach of the Lions, Aliou Cissé.
Finally, the most important match of this last day will oppose Cameroon to Burundi. The Indomitable Lions, five-time African champions, are playing their qualification at home, but they made it difficult for themselves by conceding disappointing results against Namibia. They will face a team from Burundi who can also qualify if they win.
This last day of the CAN 2024 qualifiers therefore promises matches full of intensity and passion. The competing teams will have to give everything to secure their place in the continental competition. Nothing is played, and each encounter will be a real battle for the players. The suspense is at its height and the supporters are impatient to know the teams which will participate in the CAN 2024
