“Back to school in Kindu: a satisfactory observation despite contrasts”

The start of the 2023-2024 school year in Kindu, capital of Maniema province, was marked by a contrasting atmosphere. While in many public schools student numbers seemed sparse, the situation was quite different in many private schools where classrooms were already buzzing with activity.

The mayor of the city, Augustin Mulamba, expressed himself by saying he was satisfied with this return to school. After visiting various establishments, both public and private, he declared: “The report is positive. The start of the new school year is effective and is taking place in good conditions.”

During his morning tour, Mr. Mulamba shared his itinerary: “Whether at the Basoko Institute, at the ITPK, at the School of Excellence or at the Mapendo Institute, I have noticed the presence of teachers and school officials. The start of the school year is real.”

Faced with some reluctance from parents, the mayor strongly encouraged them not to neglect this essential stage in the education of their children. “Education is the pillar of the future of our country, our province and, of course, our city,” he said in conclusion.

Despite the mixed opinions on the return to school in Kindu, it is undeniable that efforts are being made to ensure an environment conducive to learning and to highlight the importance of education. Local authorities continue to work to improve teaching conditions and encourage student participation, in order to make the start of the new school year a real springboard to a better future
