Joint UPDF-FARDC operation against the ADF in the south of Irumu territory (Ituri): a step towards the pacification of the region
The joint operation between the UPDF (the Ugandan army) and the FARDC (the Congolese armed forces) against the ADF in the south of the territory of Irumu in Ituri has met with great success, according to Lieutenant-General Kayanja Muhanga, commander of the Ugandan army ground force. During a troop inspection visit to Boga and Tchabi, he welcomed the results obtained and stressed the importance of collaboration between the two armies to dislodge the ADF from several localities.
According to Lieutenant-General Kayanja Muhanga, the joint efforts of the UPDF and the FARDC made it possible to repel the ADF in the regions of Boga, Tchabi, Zunguluka and on the Idou axis. These advances are a crucial step in the fight against this armed group, responsible for numerous abuses against the civilian population.
The operations do not stop there. The two armies are preparing to pursue the ADF towards the West, towards the national road number 4 and the region of Mambasa, where the terrorist group continues to sow terror. Despite some setbacks, notably the murderous attack on a school, the ADF commanders were neutralized and many elements were captured.
Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga made a point of highlighting the UPDF’s support to the FARDC, thereby boosting their morale and combat capability. He also called on the population to collaborate and inform on the positions of the enemy. The active participation of the population is essential for the success of this operation and to ensure everyone’s safety.
This joint operation is part of the Ushuja operations, aimed at eliminating the ADF from the region and restoring security. It testifies to the determination of the Congolese and Ugandan forces to fight against terrorism and to protect the affected populations.
In conclusion, the joint UPDF-FARDC operation against the ADF in the south of Irumu territory in Ituri marks a significant step forward in the fight against this armed group. The collaboration between the two armies made it possible to dislodge the ADF from several localities and neutralize their commanders. However, vigilance is still required and it is essential that the population continues to support the security forces by providing information to put an end to abuses and restore peace in the region
