“Bloody attack on a school in Uganda: At least 42 dead”

Bloody attack on a school in Uganda: at least 42 people were killed on the night of Friday June 16 to Saturday June 17 by suspected ADF at Mpondwe Second School in the district of Kasese, on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. The assailants attacked the learners, using knives and firearms. The authorities also mention dozens of injured and around thirty missing. Local sources mention an arson attack on a dormitory.

These attacks are not a first for this region. The ADF, Ugandan Muslim rebel groups, have already carried out bloody attacks in this border area. Ugandan authorities have launched an assault aimed at arresting the perpetrators of the violence. The Congolese FARDC are also mobilized.

The region is indeed the scene of numerous armed conflicts and the civilian populations are regularly victims of violence and massacres. In response, local authorities, the Ceni and political parties have launched a mobilization for transparent and credible legislative elections next December.
