### The Democratic Republic of Congo: a key player in the digital transformation of Central Africa
From May 13 to 16, 2025, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) marked the spirits during the 9ᵉ edition of the International Tech and Innovation Fair in Central Africa, Osiane. Under the theme “Bongwana – let us transform our challenges into opportunities”, this event was an opportunity for the country to position itself as a key player in the digital field. Through panels, conferences and a national pavilion, the DRC has highlighted its institutions, innovative solutions and young startups, testifying to a promising dynamism.
#### A presentation of the DRC to technological influence
One of the highlights of this event was the victory of the “special” Congolese startup, founded by Clever Menji Mbuyi, who won the first Osiane Africa Innova with her “Genesis” project. This stove with solar induction, rechargeable and intelligent, illustrates a local initiative seeking to meet concrete needs while respecting the environment. The ability of this startup to distinguish itself on an international scene is indicative of emerging talents that develop in the DRC.
This dynamic raises essential questions about the role of Congolese youth in the digital transformation of the region. How can we encourage this creativity and innovation? What are the infrastructures and policies necessary to support this momentum? The enthusiasm generated by the representation of the DRC in Osiane suggests a potential for transformation which deserves to be supported by investments and sustainable programs.
#### An emergence digital ecosystem
The strengthening of the Congolese digital ecosystem involves multiple initiatives. The country has been able to set up incubators and competitions such as the Congo Startup Basen Challenge to encourage innovation. At the same time, the Digital Development Agency (DNA) and the Congo Post and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ARPTC) play a crucial role in the structuring of this ecosystem, providing funding and support for digital entrepreneurs.
However, the challenge remains size. The DRC must not only cultivate its entrepreneurial space, but also ensure the quality of education and continuous training of its workforce. Local specificities and consumer realities must also be taken into account to create sustainable solutions. How can we ensure that innovations meet real needs, while remaining accessible to the greatest number?
### Digital transition as a strategic pillar
The National Digital Plan “Horizon 2025” is part of a broader logic of digital transition, which is now a strategic pillar of national development. By modernizing public administration and by digitizing essential services such as education, health and agriculture, the DRC is advancing towards a digital inclusion which could generate major socio-economic profits.
However, the success of this transition depends on the accessibility and reliability of digital infrastructure. Fiber optical coverage, promotion of cybersecurity and equitable access to digital must be priorities. Infrastructure challenges remain, especially in rural areas, where Internet access can remain precarious. How does the country plan to overcome these obstacles to ensure that no one is left behind in this transformation?
#### Towards a technological hub in Central Africa
The vision of the DRC as a technological hub in the heart of Africa calls for reinforced regional collaboration. This strategic positioning could promote not only trade, but also a sharing of good practices and expertise among neighboring countries. How can governments and institutions in the region catalyze this collective potential to build an interconnected and dynamic digital ecosystem?
In conclusion, the participation of the DRC in Osiane and its innovative initiatives testify to a desire for positive transformation. However, to fully achieve its potential as “a solution to the heart of Africa”, concerted and inclusive efforts will be essential. The path is dotted with challenges, but the opportunities that result from it can be significant for future generations. The DRC has the potential to impose itself not only as an actor of change, but also as an example to follow for other developing nations. Commitment, solidarity and strategy will be the cornerstone to translate this vision in reality.
