Major symposium for security and development in Haut-Katanga

Fatshimetrie had the privilege of attending the very first symposium between the Provincial Assembly of Haut-Katanga and the University of Lubumbashi, a major event in the region that saw the notable intervention of General Eddy Kapend Yrung, commander of the 22nd military region. This symposium highlighted crucial issues in terms of defense, security and development, particularly in a context marked by the manipulation of local youth.

General Yrung raised a key point by pointing out the propensity for manipulation of certain young people in the Katanga region, thus fueling insurrectional movements such as the Mai-Mai Bakata Katanga. These young people, according to him, seem ignorant of the political developments in the province, remaining stuck in an outdated vision of the region. He therefore calls on local authorities to raise awareness among the population and encourage them to reject any attempt at destabilization, hammering home with conviction that security is the essential prerequisite for development.

It is crucial to emphasize that security is a collective responsibility, involving the Army as well as the Police and all citizens. General Yrung stressed the importance of mobilizing everyone to guarantee the security of the region, recalling that strengthening security is a project that concerns each individual. His passionate speech reflects a holistic vision of security, involving the participation of all actors in society to build a stable and prosperous future for Haut-Katanga.

The symposium, initiated by the President of the Provincial Assembly of Haut-Katanga, Michel Kabwe Muamba, is part of a constructive approach to solving the complex problems of the province. Over a period of three days, participants are working to find innovative solutions, drawing on the expertise of researchers from the University of Lubumbashi. This collaboration between political and academic bodies marks a significant step towards an integrated approach to address the socio-economic challenges of the region.

In conclusion, the symposium between the Provincial Assembly of Haut-Katanga and the University of Lubumbashi represents a valuable opportunity to engage in constructive dialogue and implement concrete initiatives for the development and security of the region. The mobilization of all actors, whether political, military, academic or citizen, is essential to build a promising future for Haut-Katanga.
