“Humanitarian crisis in the DRC: The constraints that hinder aid to those displaced by war in the east of the country”

News in the DRC: The constraints that hinder humanitarian action in the east of the country

The humanitarian situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is deteriorating alarmingly, and the constraints hampering humanitarian action in the region are of growing concern. This was declared by Bruno Lemarquis, humanitarian coordinator in the DRC, during a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Jean-Pierre Bemba, in Kinshasa.

One of the main problems faced by humanitarian organizations is the difficult access to certain areas where there are war-displaced people. Bruno Lemarquis stressed that it was essential to be able to provide rapid and effective aid to these displaced populations, especially those around Goma.

During this meeting, other topics were also discussed, such as the increase in conflict-related sexual violence and the violent extremism of the ADF rebels. MONUSCO and the UN are working with DRC institutions to address these challenges.

In addition, the Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration and Community Rehabilitation Program for Stabilization (PDDRC-S) was also discussed during the meeting between Bruno Lemarquis and Jean-Pierre Bemba.

It is essential to address these constraints and provide adequate support to displaced and vulnerable populations in eastern DRC. Humanitarian organizations must be able to access affected areas and provide the necessary aid to meet urgent needs
