The House of Elections: a new space for information and exchange in the Democratic Republic of Congo
The Congolese political landscape continues to change with the official launch of the House of Elections by the President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). Located in the commune of Gombe in Kinshasa, this institution’s mission is to provide a place for exchanges and information sharing between the CENI and Congolese citizens.
The House of Elections aims to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the electoral process by providing a space accessible to all. Open to all citizens wishing to obtain information on the electoral process, it aims to be a crossroads of information and a lively framework that promotes interactions in mutual respect.
During his speech, the President of the CENI, Dénis Kadima, underlined the importance of this project to improve the quality of the services rendered and strengthen relations with stakeholders. The House of Elections also plans to organize trainings for the media, civil society organizations and political parties, in order to provide information necessary for an informed choice during the next elections.
The House of Elections also aims to work closely with community radio stations, considered to be local media, to disseminate as much information as possible on upcoming electoral activities, the legal framework and the innovations put in place. This collaboration aims to ensure that listeners have access to sufficient information on political parties, candidates, and voting procedures.
The resident representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Damien Mama, stressed the importance of access to information in the electoral process. According to him, the House of Elections will play a central role in providing voters and stakeholders with the information necessary for an informed understanding of electoral issues.
In summary, the House of Elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo marks a significant step forward in strengthening the transparency and efficiency of the electoral process. By offering a space for discussion and information accessible to all, it contributes to informed and enlightened voter participation. Collaboration with community radios and local actors also strengthens its role as a communication hub in the service of Congolese democracy
