The NGO Friends of Nelson Mandela for Human Rights recently announced the launch of its ambitious three-year program 2024-2027, focused on strengthening citizen vigilance and documenting human rights violations in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This program is part of the “It Must Stop This Time” campaign led by the organization in the country.
The main objective of this program is to mobilize and equip citizens so that they are able to observe, document and denounce human rights violations in the DRC. By deploying its agents on the ground in seven priority areas of the country, Friends of Nelson Mandela wishes to promote a culture of respect for human rights and actively fight against any form of violation.
One of the major concerns of the NGO lies in the project of change or revision of the Constitution in the DRC. She strongly opposes any initiative aimed at fundamentally changing the country’s fundamental law, warning of the harmful consequences that such a decision could have on the rights and freedoms of Congolese citizens.
In an interview with the magazine “Droits et Citoyenneté”, Aaron Mukalengi, Program Coordinator at the NGO, highlights the crucial importance of strengthening citizen vigilance and documenting human rights violations in a context where these practices persist in an alarming manner. He emphasizes the need for collective action and citizen solidarity to block these abuses and promote unconditional respect for the fundamental rights of everyone.
In conclusion, the three-year program 2024-2027 of the Friends of Nelson Mandela for Human Rights represents a glimmer of hope in the fight for the protection of human rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Through concrete actions and unprecedented citizen mobilization, the organization demonstrates its unwavering commitment to a more just society that respects the rights of each individual.
