Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema recently made strong remarks at the closing of his party’s third election conference. The meeting saw him re-elected unopposed as party leader, along with other members of the executive board. Malema expressed confidence that the EFF would be able to take over government once the African National Congress (ANC) removed the coalition government with the Democratic Alliance (DA) from the equation.
Denouncing the current coalition government, Malema warned that if President Cyril Ramaphosa failed to implement some of the controversial clauses in the Basic Education Amendment Act (Bela), he would be removed from power. Malema predicted a new direction for the ANC after the 2027 election conference, even mentioning Deputy President Paul Mashatile as a potential anti-coalition successor.
The EFF is therefore positioning itself in opposition to this coalition government, stating its intention to join the government to serve the interests of the people and not to save the ANC. Malema stressed the temporary nature of this alliance and promised that the EFF would eventually come to power through democratic elections.
He also warned against attempts to divide the EFF, warning of the danger of factionalism that will inevitably harm the party. Malema stressed the importance of unity and consultation among party members to avoid internal conflicts.
Finally, Malema stressed that the leadership role within the EFF implied an ability to organize and mobilize without depending on external elements. He urged EFF members to show mutual respect, be open to dialogue and work together in the best interests of the party.
In short, Julius Malema’s words reflect the EFF’s determination to combat inequality and establish genuine economic freedom for all South Africans. This bold and committed vision marks a milestone in the country’s political landscape, paving the way for a better and fairer future for all.
