Kano Police Raid: Record Seizure of Counterfeit Foreign Currency, Arrest of 62 Suspects

The Kano State Police Command recently conducted a major raid, seizing N129.542 billion in counterfeit foreign currency. A total of 62 suspects were apprehended for various crimes, with the recovery of stolen goods, drugs and dangerous weapons. The anti-crime operation has enhanced security in the state, giving cause for optimism in the fight against crime and counterfeiting. The Kano Police Command deserves commendation for its efficiency and determination.
The recent raid by the Kano State Police Command has netted a staggering amount of counterfeit foreign currency worth N129.542 billion. The anti-criminality operation was disclosed at a press conference held by the State Commissioner of Police, Salman Garba, at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, on Tuesday.

According to Garba, who was represented by the Spokesperson of the Command, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the counterfeit foreign currency seized included: $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, in addition to N1,443,000 recovered during the operations. “From November 25 to December 9 (two weeks), a total of 62 suspects were apprehended for major crimes, we recovered from them stolen goods, hard drugs, dangerous weapons, as well as various counterfeit currencies including dollars and CFA francs,” Garba said.

The Command also recovered three tricycles, eight motorcycles, 278 sheep, seven cattle, ten SIM cards, fifteen bank cards and ten mobile phones, among other items, from the suspects. The Commissioner noted that the Command had adopted a multifaceted approach in fighting crime, which has made the state safer and more secure for all. “Businesses are thriving, residents are feeling safer in their homes, and the general sense of security and well-being has been greatly enhanced,” he added.

This impressive seizure of counterfeit foreign currency and the arrest of the suspects are encouraging signs in the fight against crime and counterfeiting. The Kano Police Command deserves commendation for its efficiency and determination in maintaining security in the state. Hopefully, these actions will deter criminals and help create a safer environment for all citizens.
