“Fatshimetrie” is pleased to share an extraordinary news that Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has recently awarded scholarships to 44 first class graduates of the Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi. This was announced during the institution’s 22nd, 23rd and 24th combined graduation ceremony held last Saturday in Makurdi. The beneficiaries were each given an automatic scholarship to pursue a master’s degree programme in their respective fields at BSU.
In his address, the governor urged all the graduates to go out and conquer the world, make their mark and stand out in their respective fields. He also announced that a bill had been sent to the Benue State House of Assembly to rename the university after its founder, the late Rev. Father Moses Adasu.
In a generous gesture, the governor pledged to donate 500 sets of computers to the university to equip the computer lab. He underscored his administration’s commitment to bringing education closer to the citizenry, announcing the establishment of new campuses in Adikpo, Kwande District and Benue South Senatorial District.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Tor Iorapuu, meanwhile, mentioned the construction of a 144-bed student hostel to accommodate the students. He added that the Faculty of Technology and Industrial Studies would relocate to Adikpo to continue its expansion.
The Chancellor, Dr Najib Adamu, called on the graduates to contribute meaningfully to society and to hold the institution’s flag high at all times and in all circumstances. He pledged to support the university in achieving its goals.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Paul Chukwuma, highlighted the expansion of the university’s academic programmes, noting that disciplines such as Architecture and Pharmacy were now offered. He reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of staff and students, placing them at the top of his priorities.
This initiative by Governor Alia and the efforts of the University of Benue to provide quality educational opportunities are significant steps towards academic excellence and social development. Actions taken to strengthen education and foster student success are crucial to the future of Benue State and its citizens.
