In a global context of fighting hunger and malnutrition, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Democratic Republic of Congo recently participated in an international conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the possibility of creating a world without hunger. The Minister of Agriculture, Grégoire Mutshail Mutomb, affirmed with conviction that living in such a world was not only conceivable, but also achievable. However, he stressed that armed conflicts were a major obstacle to achieving this goal, by creating artificial hunger.

The Minister highlighted the initiatives taken by the Congolese government to support agricultural development, particularly through the 2024-2025 agricultural campaign. Concrete measures have been put in place, such as the provision of tractors, agricultural inputs, ploughing equipment and seeds to the country’s agricultural cooperatives. These actions are part of the vision of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, who places agriculture at the heart of the development of the DRC.

The desire displayed by the DRC government to improve the agricultural sector is part of a more global approach aimed at combating the food crisis and boosting the country’s economy through agricultural investments. This approach is all the more crucial in a context where the Congolese population is facing significant food challenges.

The participation of the Minister of Agriculture in this international conference was also an opportunity to salute President Tshisekedi’s commitment to the agricultural sector. This meeting, which brought together several high-level personalities, including representatives of UNIDO, the African Union and various countries, provided an opportunity to discuss ways to promote food security at the global level.

The conference, organized by UNIDO, the Ethiopian government and the AU, with the support of FAO, was an opportunity to highlight the importance of international cooperation in the fight against hunger and malnutrition. Discussions focused on strategies to strengthen the resilience of food systems and ensure equitable access to quality food for all.

In conclusion, the participation of the DRC Ministry of Agriculture in this international conference illustrates the country’s commitment to contribute to achieving a world without hunger. The concrete actions implemented by the government, combined with strengthened international cooperation, offer encouraging prospects for meeting the challenge of food security on a global scale.
