The incredible biodiversity of the Ausim region of Giza has recently attracted attention, following reports of a crocodile in the area. However, veterinary consultant Karam Mostafa quickly dispelled fears by identifying the animal in question as a “Nile monitor,” a species of lizard that is harmless to humans.
In a phone call with the private Sada al-Balad channel, Mostafa explained that the Nile monitor is a lizard that poses no danger to humans. Although it can swallow a rabbit or any other small animal, this rare animal is more common in deserts, near lakes and seas, than in residential areas.
He pointed out that the monitor lizard is a creature that lives in humid places and feeds on dead animals, especially on agricultural roads. Contrary to some unfounded fears, he reassured the public that this animal is peaceful and harmless to humans.
The diversity of animal species reminds us of the need to respect and protect natural habitats. Each creature, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, plays an essential role in the balance of life on Earth. It is important to raise awareness of the richness of local fauna and flora, and to promote environmentally friendly cohabitation practices.
Ultimately, this story reminds us that nature still has many surprises in store for us. Instead of panicking in the face of the unknown, it is essential to adopt a respectful and curious approach to the world around us. Who knows what other wonders and discoveries are hidden in the corners of our planet, waiting to be revealed by attentive and caring observers.
