In a grim case rocking the society, the recent operation by the Ebonyi Police Command has brought to light heinous acts of alleged human organ harvesting and ritual killings. According to DSP Joshua Ukandu, the police spokesperson, out of the 177 suspects apprehended, four are suspected to be involved in the gruesome practices.
Addressing a press conference in Abakaliki, Ukandu disclosed that among those arrested were 162 men and 15 women. Of the total, 92 individuals have already been charged while the rest will be charged once investigations are concluded.
“On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi Command, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya, I wish to warmly welcome you to this press conference. I am here to brief you on the achievements of the Command during the month of October 2024 and our relentless efforts to combat crime and ensure a safe and prosperous environment for socio-economic growth in the state,” Ukandu said.
He added that the police authorities have deployed strategic measures and intensified engagements with stakeholders to minimize violent crimes and ensure the safety of all. The continued efforts of the law enforcement agencies are aimed at making the state safe for its people and fostering a security environment conducive to the well-being of the people.
On allegations of human organ harvesting and ritual killings, the spokesperson of the Command narrated the harrowing story of Blessing Chikezie, who reported her husband, Idenyi Chikezie missing.
Investigators, through meticulous work and credible intelligence, managed to arrest Innocent Elebe, Eze Elechi, Obinna Nwanguru and Oda Peter, individuals allegedly involved in the atrocious acts of murder for organ harvesting, with the aim of treating a person suffering from Down syndrome.
This case reveals the darkness of the human soul and the disturbing reality of criminal practices that can be rampant in our societies. It also highlights the urgent need to strengthen efforts to prevent and combat such abominable acts, in order to protect citizens and ensure security and peace in our communities.
