The rapid progress of electric sanitation in Kinshasa

The progress of the Kinshasa electricity grid sanitation works is progressing rapidly, with 72% completion to date. The efforts of the National Electricity Company aim to improve the city
Fatshimetrie November 7, 2024 – The progress of the work to clean up the electricity network in the city of Kinshasa shows significant progress, with a complete completion estimated at 72%. This modernization initiative, initiated by the National Electricity Company (Snel), aims to improve the energy distribution of the Congolese capital and to guarantee a stable and secure power supply for its inhabitants.

The efforts made by the teams of the Operations and Maintenance Directorate (Dem) of the Kinshasa Distribution Division (DDK) have already made it possible to lay nearly 9,846 meters of cables out of the 13,642 meters planned, thus marking a significant step towards the set objective. The installation of a 30 Kv electrical distribution panel, in parallel with a 20kV panel, is underway to connect the 30/20 Kv-15 Mva transformer of the CDA substation, thus helping to strengthen the local electricity network.

In order to reduce power outages and interruptions, two new transformers will be installed at the Basilunda and Consolata cabins, thus optimizing distribution and minimizing incidents. The rehabilitation of a mobile cabin equipped with a 20-6.6kV/0.4kV dual-voltage transformer will also provide an effective solution for rapid intervention in the event of an emergency, thus limiting downtime and ensuring reliable service.

It is undeniable that these improvements are essential to ensure the safety of electrical installations and provide quality service to the residents of Kinshasa. Thanks to the commitment of the technical teams and the implementation of innovative solutions, the city can envisage a more stable and efficient energy future.

In conclusion, the sanitation of Kinshasa’s electricity network illustrates a desire for modernization and continuous improvement, thus bringing significant changes to the electricity distribution of the Congolese capital. This progress demonstrates the ability of local stakeholders to meet the challenges of ensuring reliable and secure access to energy, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the city and the well-being of its inhabitants.
