Fatshimetrie, October 5, 2024 (ACP) – A terrible tragedy struck the Kananga-Kalamba-Mbuji region, in the heart of Kasai Central, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Twelve lives were cruelly taken in a tragic traffic accident that occurred Tuesday in the village of Mbulambula, Miao sector, 80 kilometers from Kananga.
The accident plunged the community into deep pain, marking once again the devastating consequences of the poor state of the roads in the region. Me Pontien Kaboma, lawyer and witness to the tragic event, testified to the distress of the bereaved families, calling for help to find the missing bodies and allow them to be buried with dignity.
Provincial MP Pierre Sosthène Kambidi pointed to the advanced state of disrepair of the dirt road as the main cause of this tragedy. He stressed the crucial importance of the rehabilitation of this road for the safety of the inhabitants and the economic development of the region. The work launched in 2022 by President Tshisekedi must be accelerated to avoid new tragedies.
This road, of national and international interest, plays a vital role in opening up the Kasai provinces, facilitating trade and the supply of essential goods. It represents an essential link between Angola and the DRC, promoting economic exchanges and providing an access route to the Atlantic Ocean. The urgency of its rehabilitation cannot be ignored, as it directly impacts the lives and well-being of local populations.
This tragic accident is a reminder of the urgent need to invest in road infrastructure to ensure the safety of users and promote sustainable development. The authorities are called upon to act quickly to prevent future tragedies and guarantee a better future for the communities of Kasai Central. Only a firm commitment to road safety and economic development will prevent such tragedies in the future.
