President Félix Tshisekedi boosts regional cooperation at SADC Summit

President Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo recently took part in the 43rd Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), held in Luanda, Angola. In his capacity as current president of this sub-regional organization, President Tshisekedi chaired the summit and passed the baton of command to his Angolan counterpart Joâo Lourenco for the year 2023-2024.

Prior to the official opening of the summit, the Congolese President participated in a meeting of the Troika of the SADC Organ, which addresses issues related to peace, security and stability in the region. This meeting brings together the outgoing President, the current President and the future President of SADC, and provides guidance for Member States.

This year’s theme for the Heads of State and Government Summit was “Human and Financial Capital: Key Drivers of Sustainable Industrialization in the SADC Region”. The participants discussed the necessary catalysts for regional industrialization, such as qualified human resources and adequate financial resources.

This participation of President Tshisekedi in this regional summit illustrates the commitment of the Democratic Republic of Congo to strengthen its relations with the countries of the region and to contribute to the sustainable economic development of southern Africa. It is also a recognition of his role as a regional leader and his ability to influence important decisions within SADC.

During this summit, President Tshisekedi also took the opportunity to discuss with his counterparts and strengthen bilateral ties with Angola and other SADC member countries. This meeting was an opportunity to discuss the common challenges facing the region and to find concerted solutions to address them.
