**Fatshimetrie: To end the embezzlement of public funds**
Since coming to power, President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi has committed to fighting corruption and embezzlement of public funds in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thus, during the last Council of Ministers, the Head of State recommended to Prime Minister Judith Suminwa to set up a financial prosecutor’s office responsible for specifically prosecuting offenses related to the embezzlement of public funds. This decision marks a new step in the government’s efforts to clean up the country’s financial management.
The findings of the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) reveal numerous distortions in the management of public spending, both at the level of companies and public institutions. These irregularities, such as non-compliance with legal and regulatory texts, violation of provisions on the execution of expenditure and non-compliance with public procurement rules, have led the President to take concrete measures to remedy them.
Thus, the General Inspectorate of Finance was tasked with transmitting its recommendations to the Prime Minister, who will have to ensure their effective implementation. In addition, the Prime Minister is asked to inform members of the government, the Central Bank and public officials of the recommendations made by the IGF on the supervision of public revenue and expenditure.
One of the flagship measures announced is the establishment of the public agent contract to evaluate public enterprises and their management. This initiative aims to strengthen transparency and accountability in the management of state resources.
In conclusion, the establishment of a financial prosecutor’s office and the recommendations of the General Inspectorate of Finance represent significant progress in the fight against corruption in the DRC. These actions demonstrate the government’s determination to clean up the management of public funds and to guarantee a transparent and responsible administration serving the Congolese people.
