North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum made a name for himself by challenging Trump for the 2024 Republican nomination before suspending his campaign in December. A former Microsoft executive, Burgum enters his second term as governor with a conservative record, including signing a law last year banning gender-affirming care for most minors and enacting a near-total abortion ban in the state.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio is also a potential candidate. The son of Cuban immigrants, he could be an attractive choice for Trump, particularly in terms of appealing to Hispanic voters.
