In this article, former President Donald Trump takes center stage as he seeks to choose a running mate for his potential presidential campaign. Since his recent hush-money trial in New York, former President Donald Trump has been in the news. Embroiled in three other lawsuits, he continues his campaign to win back the White House. But in the midst of it all, Trump has another crucial task at hand: choosing a running mate.

With the Republican National Convention fast approaching, where the former president is expected to announce his choice for vice president, sources close to the convention tell Fatshimetrie the potential contenders on Trump’s mind.

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum made a name for himself by challenging Trump for the 2024 Republican nomination before suspending his campaign in December. A former Microsoft executive, Burgum enters his second term as governor with a conservative record, including signing a law last year banning gender-affirming care for most minors and enacting a near-total abortion ban in the state.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio is also a potential candidate. The son of Cuban immigrants, he could be an attractive choice for Trump, particularly in terms of appealing to Hispanic voters. Rubio, first elected in 2010, has changed his stance on Trump since the 2016 election, rallying around him and regularly defending him. However, Rubio could face a significant hurdle as a Florida resident, just like the former president. While the U.S. Constitution does not prohibit a president and vice president from being from the same state, the electors cannot vote for two people from the state.

Ohio Senator J.D. Vance is another potential running mate. A newcomer to Congress, Vance has benefited from Donald Trump’s support to win a tough 2022 race. Although he criticized Trump in 2016, Vance is now a staunch supporter of the president and often votes in line with his interests.

Finally, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott is also being considered as Trump’s running mate. Having avoided any harsh criticism of the former president during the Republican primaries, Scott has grown closer to Trump since suspending his campaign in November.

With the presidential campaign in full swing, Trump’s final decision on a running mate remains a crucial issue. The former president will have to carefully choose his running mate in this frantic race for the White House. All eyes are on him, and the stakes are high. A decision that could be a game-changer for Republicans and the political future of the United States.
