**Portrait of Ambassador Mohamed al-Shennawy, the new face of Egyptian diplomacy**
Ambassador Mohamed al-Shennawy recently took office as the official spokesperson of the Egyptian Presidency, succeeding Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy, who was appointed Ambassador of Hungary. This seasoned diplomat holds a law degree from Cairo University and a master’s degree in international law from the University of London, which attests to his solid academic background.
His career began as a deputy prosecutor, before joining the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995. Over the years, he has held various positions of responsibility, both nationally and internationally. His assignments have led him to work in the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations in New York, as well as to participate in crucial negotiations on the delimitation of the maritime borders between Egypt and Greece.
In 2019, he was appointed Ambassador of Egypt to Hungary, before being chosen as the official Spokesperson for the Presidency. Ambassador al-Shennawy has played an active role in many international diplomatic forums, including representing Egypt at the United Nations General Assembly. He has also participated in efforts to strengthen Egypt’s presence in the Security Council as a non-permanent member.
His expertise in international law, security and counter-terrorism has been recognized globally. He has been involved in key negotiations on key issues such as the expansion and reform of the United Nations Security Council.
