Demographic and health survey in the DRC – EDS-RDC III 2022 launched in Kinshasa
On Tuesday May 30, 2023, the Minister of State in charge of Planning, Judith Suminwa Tuluka, officially launched the third demographic and health survey in the DRC (EDS-RDC III 2022) in Kinshasa. This is a survey carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Planning, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention.
The EDS-DRC III 2022 is a colossal project which requires the work of 600 investigators who will have to travel across the country to collect data from 26,520 households in order to collect new data which will make it possible to update the indicators for better decision-making. of decision.
In her speech, Minister Judith Suminwa recalled the need for this investigation for the Republic. She stressed that the decision to carry it out is to meet the need for useful and up-to-date data. The last DHS survey dates back 10 years. It was therefore imperative to update the data for better decision-making.
For its part, the DG a.i of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) recalled that this survey will make it possible to detect the real problems posed in order to better conduct actions.
In addition, the National Coordinator of DHS-DRC III pointed out that the interviewers were carefully recruited and trained for a month, in order to guarantee reliable results. The launch of the EDS-DRC III was funded by the DRC government, USAID, UNICEF, UNFPA, the World Bank, the Global Fund and received technical assistance from ICF International.
In short, the EDS-RDC III 2022 is a major initiative that will provide useful and up-to-date summary data, so that political decision-makers and other development actors can base their actions on solid foundations.
