Murders and armed robberies shake the city of Beni (North Kivu). Since the beginning of the month, the local population has been living in fear. The situation, denounced by the president of civil society, Pepin Kavota, raises serious concerns about security in this region.
The last recorded case was last Wednesday. A biker was shot dead in a shootout in the Matonge neighborhood around 3 a.m. However, Pepin Kavota emphasizes that this case is not isolated. Many other crimes were reported in Boikene, Kanzulinzuli and Butsil. A wave of urban insecurity is once again hitting the city of Beni.
Faced with this alarming situation, the president of civil society called on the urban security committee to strengthen security patrols throughout the city. It also asks the population to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity in order to put an end to this growing insecurity.
Pepin Kavota also spoke of the need for the authorities to control patrol officers and ensure that they are not among the suspects. Indeed, the population can sometimes suspect the police. He therefore calls for scrupulous verification after each patrol in order to restore confidence between the population and the security forces.
Growing insecurity in Beni is a problem that needs to be addressed quickly. Local authorities must take effective measures to ensure the safety of residents and put an end to these criminal acts. It is essential to increase security patrols, improve coordination between law enforcement and the population, and build mutual trust to restore peace in the city.
The situation in Beni is a reminder of the importance of security in our communities
