Fatshimetrie, November 8, 2024 – Fifty hand-picked journalists, including two representatives of the Congolese Press Agency (ACP), have been invited to a capacity-building seminar to be held from Monday, November 11 to Friday, November 12, 2024, at the headquarters of the Handball Federation of the Democratic Republic of Congo (Fehand), in Limete, in the heart of Kinshasa. This initiative comes on the sidelines of the 2024 African Cup of Nations (CAN) women’s handball tournament, which is preparing to take over the sports scene.
In a recently released press release, it is mentioned that “the journalists mentioned are invited to a capacity-building seminar to be held from Monday, November 11 to Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the headquarters of the Handball Federation”. Among the fifty communication professionals invited, two names stand out: Paul Ntima Kazozo and Nana KANKU, both from the ACP sports desk.
This two-day training aims to prepare the ground for the next African Women’s Handball Cup of Nations, organized in the Democratic Republic of Congo from November 27 to December 7, 2024, a major event involving twelve African countries. The objective is to allow journalists to familiarize themselves with the challenges of the competition, to strengthen their skills in media coverage and to ensure optimal dissemination of information to the public.
This invitation to participate in this capacity-building seminar demonstrates the importance given to the journalistic profession in the coverage of major sporting events such as the Women’s Handball AFCON. By reporting on matches, team performances and the challenges of the competition, journalists contribute to the animation of the DRC’s media and sports landscape, while providing international visibility to this major event.
Beyond the simple mission of information, journalists have a crucial role to play in the promotion of Congolese sport and in the promotion of the discipline of handball, by highlighting the talent of the sportsmen and women who are preparing to defend the colors of the DRC on the continental scene. This training is therefore an opportunity to enrich their knowledge, to exchange with experts in the field and to strengthen their expertise in sports reporting.
In conclusion, this capacity-building seminar promises to be an essential step in the preparation of the next African Women’s Handball Cup of Nations in the DRC. It offers journalists the opportunity to train, exchange and prepare to cover the event in a professional and enriching manner. Through their commitment and expertise, these information professionals will contribute to promoting Congolese handball and to arouse public interest in this exhilarating sport.
