This event marks a crucial turning point in the vision of combating climate change and preserving the environment in the DRC.

Under the leadership of the acting governor of Kwilu, Félicien Kiway, the first steps of PIFORES pave the way for a concrete commitment to protecting forests and savannah ecosystems, which are threatened by global warming and continued environmental degradation. Indeed, the province of Kwilu is bearing the brunt of the consequences of these phenomena, particularly with disruptions in the cycles of agricultural seasons and declining harvests.

This ambitious program is part of a comprehensive approach aimed at restoring and preserving forest landscapes, while strengthening the livelihoods of local communities. Through its various components, PIFORES aims to promote sustainable governance of natural resources, foster access to markets for local producers, encourage the use of clean energy and create jobs in innovative and sustainable sectors.

In collaboration with the World Bank, the DRC government has allocated significant funds to this project, demonstrating the importance given to preserving the environment and promoting a green economy. The positive impacts of these investments are already being felt across the various provinces concerned, including Kongo-Central, Kasaï, Kasaï-Central, Lomami, Kasaï-Oriental and of course Kwilu.

The PIFORES launch ceremony in Kikwit brought together a wide range of stakeholders, demonstrating the commitment and mobilization of all levels of society in favor of environmental protection.
