A unique opportunity for young African journalists: take part in the 10th edition of the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship

Ten years later, we still remember with emotion the double assassination of RFI journalists, Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon, in Kidal, Mali. This tragic event marked the world of the media and reminded us of the dangerousness of the profession of reporter in the field.

To pay tribute to the memory of these two talented journalists, RFI is launching the tenth edition of the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship. This scholarship aims to transmit their professionalism and their passion for reporting to young journalists and technicians from the African continent. Applications are open to the 25 French-speaking countries of the continent and the training will take place in Abidjan.

To participate, applicants must be under 35, have worked in radio for at least two years and reside in one of the countries mentioned. The ten best journalist candidates and the ten best technician candidates will be selected on file and invited to participate in intensive training in Abidjan.

This training will include practical workshops during which participants will produce a report for journalists and a sound element for technicians. A jury made up of representatives from RFI, the Ivorian press, the Sciences Po School of Journalism and INA will select a winner in each category.

The Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship will be awarded on November 2, the date decreed by the United Nations as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Committed against Journalists. The award ceremony will take place in Abidjan, and the winners will benefit from a one-month training in Paris.

This scholarship is an opportunity for young African talents to train, develop their skills and make their voices heard in the world of journalism. By paying tribute to Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon, we perpetuate their heritage and encourage the new generation of reporters, ready to face the challenges of the profession with professionalism and determination.

The tenth edition of the Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon Scholarship is a unique opportunity for young African journalists and technicians to stand out and show off their talent. Registrations are open until August 25, so don’t hesitate to submit your application and join this rewarding adventure
