Fatshimetrie, November 4, 2024 – The fight against the scourge of armed robbery and urban banditry in Kindu, in the Maniema region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is today at the heart of the concerns of a human rights organization. It is therefore urgent that provincial and national authorities strengthen security services in all the communes of Kindu, and more broadly in the Maniema region.
Recent armed bandit attacks, such as the burglaries in the RVA neighborhood, demonstrate the urgency of the situation. The insecurity in Kindu is reflected in thefts, rapes of young girls and women, burglaries and even acts of extreme violence.
In the face of these security challenges, it is essential that the relevant authorities take concrete measures to put an end to this spiral of violence and insecurity that is plaguing the region. The population of Kindu deserves to live in a safe and protected environment, where they can go about their daily lives without fearing for their lives and property.
