The challenge of rehabilitating agricultural infrastructure to promote rural development is a priority for many regions, including Maniema province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As part of the Inclusive and Resilient Rural Development Support Program (PADRIR), two international offices have been selected to conduct feasibility studies of agricultural roads in the territories of Kailo and Kasongo. This initiative aims to improve the accessibility of rural areas, strengthen the productive capacities of local communities and promote their economic development.
The Managing Director of SOTUEC International, Mhamed Ben Rhouma, underlines the importance of this intervention which emphasizes a participatory approach with the beneficiary populations. The technical studies of the 35 kilometers of roads in Kailo and the 70 kilometers in Kasongo will identify the specific needs for the rehabilitation of agricultural roads. Socio-economic surveys, household studies and public consultations are also planned to understand the expectations of the inhabitants and integrate their needs into the project.
The “IMMO” approach put forward by SOTUEC International shows a desire to value the local workforce and actively involve populations in the project implementation process. It is indeed essential to ensure that agricultural development initiatives truly meet the needs of communities, taking into account their socio-economic realities and aspirations.
